SCOIL Mhuire Leaving Certificate students were recently congratulated by management and staff on receipt of outstanding results this year.

Principal Miriam Downey reported that 41% of the students sat Mathematics at higher level and all gained the grade required for the bonus 25 points.

Over one in four students, 26%, achieved 500 points or more, while 55% of students achieved 400 or more points.

Almost four of every five students, 79%, gained at least 350 points. Such percentages are well above national averages.

The excellent results mirrored the views of inspectors from the Department of Education and Skills who visited Scoil Mhuire last December over a number of weeks to undertake a Whole School Evaluation in many aspects of school life. The findings of the inspection were very positive and affirmed the very good quality of teaching, learning and assessment in Scoil Mhuire with examples of excellent practice.

Students were found by inspectors to display high levels of engagement and enjoyment in their lessons. It was reported by inspectors that high expectations were evident in lessons and students universally rose to these expectations.

A total of 19 subjects were timetabled in the school for Leaving Certificate 2018 students and in all subjects students scored higher than national averages. 68% of papers taken at Leaving Certificate were sat at higher level.

Such tremendous results come following significant work, commitment and dedication by both students and staff.

A destination survey of the class of 2018 is now underway to track the paths taken by students in the next chapter of their lives.
