Wolfe Tones Minors in league final

WOLFE Tones (Kanturk) Minor Footballers upset the odds when defeating Buttevant in the Rebel Og North U18’A’FC semi final played at Milford on Friday last 14th September.

Buttevant defeated Kanturk in their league encounter earlier in the summer and were firm favourites to reach the final. Indeed, when Buttevant went into a nine point lead midway through the first half it looked like the north Cork side would prevail but they didn’t count on Wolfe Tones’ fighting spirit as they roared into the tie and took the spoils on a 3-14 to 3-10 score line.

The final brings Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) into opposition with BK Plunkets which is set for Millstreet on Sunday 23rd September at 6pm.

Both sides clashed in the league in July which resulted in a share of the spoils. BK Plunkets had a big win in their championship semi-final which would see them as favourites going into Sunday’s tie, but the Kanturk lads, buoyed by their success over Buttevant, will be hopeful of achieving success on the night.

In the Rebel Og Cork County U14’B’HC semi-final played at Ballyanley on Saturday last 15th September, Kanturk had to give second best to Nemo Rangers on a 2-06 to 2-14 score line.

In the Rebel Og U16 P2FC, Wolfe Tones (Kanturk) meet Gabrial Rangers, probably over the weekend of 29/30th September. COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS: Kanturk will meet Killeagh in the Cork SHC relegation play off after the east Cork side lost out to Ballyhea on Saturday last.

Both clubs are hoping for the game to be fixed for Sunday 30th September, with venue and time to be decided.

In the Cork Senior Football championship, Duhallow meet Valley Rovers in the quarter final at Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday 22nd September 7.45pm. Kanturk’s Paul and Aidan Walsh, Lorcain Mc Loughlin and Mark Healy all saw game time in Duhallow’s victory over St Nick’s. Best of luck to all involved.
