Araglen Desmond Buí face All-Ireland champions in ladies county final

THE meeting of Araglen Desmonds Buí and Aghada makes for a tasty affair in the Ladies County Intermedia­te Football Championsh­ip Final in Ovens on Saturday (3pm throw in).

No surprise two inform sides are on show, Araglen paired against the reigning All Ireland Junior champions. When the teams met in the opening round, Aghada shaded an enthrallin­g contest with hard graft and sheer heart surfaced, the pace and tempo never slackened before Aghada landed a win by the minimum of margins on a 4-14 to 6-7 scoreline.

The Duhallow outfit were soon back in business, good wins recorded over Beara and Clonakilty, Araglen Desmonds Buí possess a well balanced outfit, plenty of talent on board including county player Shauna Kelly, Roisín Murphy, Rebecca Cremin, Megan Courtney, Julie and Katie Dennehy along with Evie and Beatrice Casey.

At the close of last season, Aghada tasted t All Ireland glory when team captain and top soccer player Emma Farmer scored five points, along with county stars Róisín Phelan and Hannah Corkery,they claimed an historic All-Ireland ladies junior club football title. A scoring flourish during the closing quarter, shooting 2-3 without reply helped the East Cork side storm past Corduff from Monaghan.

The skilful Christine Moran found the net as did Clare Walsh to claim the rightful throne of All Ireland champions. Showing no nerves on upgrading to intermedia­te ranks, Aghada have done what was expected of them with an impressive run of results.

On paper, Aghada are on a roll, holding momentum of going on further, that’s capable of landing back to back county titles. However Araglen Desmond Buí won’t surrender too easily, they too play an attractive brand of football that may be good enough to land a narrow win.
