Millstreet hold nerve in tight finish to win Under-21 title
Millstreet 0-15 Banteer 0-14
MILLSTREET were pushed to the pin of their collar only to land a deserved Central Stores Duhallow U-21 ‘B’ Hurling Championship title from Banteer at Freemount on Sunday last.
The contest was every bit as close and engaging as the scoreline suggests, Millstreet forced to dig deep before shrugging off determined opponents. Operating with a playing panel of just 15 players, a durable Millstreet combination underlined their unwavering resolve and conviction that staved off a brave Banteer bid that came close to forcing a replay.
Millstreet can applaud a team effort yet their defence deserve enormous credit, working diligently all through and closed the gaps securely when danger arrived.Though operating against the breeze, Banteer looked by far the more accomplished side early on, delivering three consecutive points from Paudie Lyons and Luke Philpott.
Millstreet grew into the game, recovering from an uncertain start, their improvement stemmed from the tireless grafting of Darren Kiely and Padraig Moynihan in defence with midfielders Tim Healy and Neil Flahive growing with the demands

An enormous thank you to Clive Hooper weren’t too keen to relent too easily, Moynihan and Hickey found the target to consolidate their position.
Goal chances were few and far between, Banteer ‘keeper Ross Kiely denied Donal Sheehan of a possible green flag. The pendulum appeared to swinging Millstreet’s way after Walsh and Hickey delivered long range points to jump four ahead.
However, Banteer initiated a revival, prompted by the telling efforts of James McAulliffe, Colm Coughlan and Lyons. And Banteer began to enjoy a flourish, Philpott pointed a pair and another from Cathal O’Donoughue had it down to the minimum.
And it looked as if Banteer would complete the revival but a competent Millsteet rearguard ensured they weren’t going to ship a levelling score.
