Plunketts and Tones for Minor football final

-

THE clash of BK Plunketts and Wolfe Tones whets the appetite for a cracking confrontation in the Rebel Og North Cork Central Stores MAFC Final in Millstreet on Sunday evening.

There is no doubt that the two form sides in the competition have made it through to the decider for what promises to be a game brimful of fine open and attacking football.

Indeed from a competitive championship, both Plunketts and Tones have confirmed their pedigree and fittingly the two form teams have reached the final on merit. Just five teams participated in the grade, interestingly in a league final, Buttevant bettered Keale Gaels.

BK Plunketts are a new combination drawn from Boherbue and Knocknagree, no surprise, there is a strong football presence throughout the field. From their campaign to date, Plunketts waited for their semi final opponents where Duarigle Gaels bettered Mitchelstown.

There was little doubt as to the outcome of the semi, Plunketts recording a clearcut victory thanks to an impressive tally recorded. Plunketts possess a solid side, looking to the commanding play of Michael Doyle, Daniel O’Mahony, Bryan Murphy, Gerry O’Sullivan, Niall and Denis O’Connor.

Wolfe Tones comprising Kanturk and Lismire demonstrated inner resolve to overcome league winners Buttevant in the second semi final. On doing so, Tones summoned up a spectacular comeback on erasing a nine point deficit midway through the second half.

There is a good shape and balance to the Tones line up with Daniel O’Connell, Liam Cashman, Brian O’Sullivan, Alan Walsh and Cian O’Sullivan forming a commanding presence. With two skilful sides on duty, it makes for a fascinating encounter, little or nothing expected to separate the sides.
