Kildorrery see off St. Dominic’s in replay to set up final with Ballyhea

KILDORRERY are through to the Under 21 B HC final following their close win over St Dominic’s at Kilworth on Sunday. The sides were level on nine occasions with the better balanced Kildorrery finishing strong.

A goal by James Keating 7 minutes into the second half was a major score in what was very closely contested semi final replay between these near neighbours and great rivals. A personal tally of 0-14 for Stephen Condon showed his contributi­on for St Dominic’s final tally of 0-18. Cathal Harrington opened the scoring with an early pointed free for Kildorrery. Good play by Jesse Walsh led to a point for St Dominic’s by Stephen Condon. Paddy Pigott placed Shane O’Neill for a lead point for the winners.

St. Dominic’s replied when Eric O’Donoghue put Stephen Condon through 0-2 each. James Keating edged the ‘Hill ahead after a foul on Dylan Kent. By the end of the first quarter Kildorrery were 0-5 to 0-3 clear. Stephen Condon with two frees levelled at 0-5 each. They were also deadlocked at 0-6, 0-7 and 0-8 each by the 28th minute. Stephen Condon with two injury time pointed frees gave the Glanworth-Shanballym­ore side an interval lead 0-10 to 0-8.

On the changeover Cathal Harrington pointed a free after Dylan Kent was brought down. St. Dominic’s replied with another Condon pointed free. A foul on Sean Leonard saw Stephen Condon land another free that opened up a three-point lead 0 -12 to 0 -9. In the 37th minute James Keating gained possession on the ‘40’ and broke through two defenders before cracking a powerful shot to the net that forced level. A foul on Edmund Roche led to Stephen Condon pointing another free.

The ‘Hill replied with a free by James Keating 1-10 to 0-13. In the 4lst minute John O’Sullivan was brought down and Stephen Condon edged his side in front once more. James Keating replied from a free 1-11 to 0-14. In the 46th minute Keating edged the winners in front from another free. Good play by Stephen Condon led to a block down by James Keating with the ball rebounding to Jack Coughlan who placed Edmund Roche for a great point that had them deadlocked for the last time 1-12 to 0-15 by the 48th minute.

Kildorrery finished very strong. Shane O’Neill placed Dylan Kent for a lead point with Cathal Harrington adding a pointed free. Good play by Richie Hurley led to a great point by Kieran Hurley as the winners led 1-15 to 0-15. Stephen Condon replied with a free in the 53rd minute. This was followed by a long range point by Ian Butler that restored the goal lead 1-16 to 0-16. Stephen Condon and James Keating swopped a pointed free. In the 29th minute Stephen Condon kept his side in touch with a pointed ‘65. Kildorrery got the goal lead back when Shane O’Neill passed to the inrushing Dylan Kent who sent over 1-18 to 0-18.

Deep in injury-time a long range pointed free by James Keating secured Kildorrery’s place in the final against Ballyhea next Tuesday.
