St. Dominic’s 0-15 Kildorrery 0-15

A DRAW was a fitting result in this Avondhu U-21 B HC semi-final at Ballygibli­n on Monday. The sides were level on six occasions throughout the game. Intermitte­nt rain at the start of the game made for slippery conditions.

James Keating opened with an early pointed free after Paddy Pigott was fouled. Shane O’Neill followed with a good point from play. St Dominic’s replied with three pointed frees by Stephen Condon that edged them ahead. James Keating with another free levelled at 0-3 each after 11 minutes. In the 17th minute another foul on Paddy Pigott led to a lead pointed free by Keating. The same player added two more pointed frees as the ‘Hill’ moved 0-6 to 0-3 clear. In the 2lst minute James Keating pointed a brilliant sideline cut as his side built up a four point lead.

St Dominic’s were denied a good goal scoring chance when Edmund Roche and Stephen Condon worked well for Sean Leonard whose effort from a tight angle came back off the post. Dylan Kent broke up a good movement from Dylan Connolly. In the last five minutes St. Dominic’s had three points on the trot by Edmund Roche and two pointed frees by Stephen Condon as they came within a single point at the break 0-7 to 0-6.

On the changeover Stephen Condon levelled with an early free. Good play by Sean Cunningham led to a lead point by Paddy Pigott. In the 40th minute James Keating landed a free as Kildorrery moved 0-10 to 0-8 clear. St. Dominic’s hit a purple patch. Stephen Condon pointed three 65s in quick succession to draw level at 0-10 apiece. Good play by Jack Coughlan to D J Flynn led to a point by Edmund Roche.

St Dominic’s had their fifth point on the trot when Stephen Condon pointed from long range opening up a lead 0-13 to 0-10 after 45 minutes play. Dylan Kent sent over for Kildorrery after good play by Sean Cunningham and Cathal Harrington. The Glanworth-Shanballym­ore side moved three points clear when John O’Sullivan and Jack Blackburne combined for Stephen Condon to point.

James Keating and Stephen Condon exchanged a pointed free as Dominic’s led 0-15 to 0-12 with four minutes remaining. In these final moments Cathal Harrington pointed two frees with James Keating pointing a long range free in the 6lst minute as the sides finished all square.
