DIVERSE NIGHT OF CULTURE

-

IN CULLEN:

AN extraordinary night of cultural festivities has grown each year since its inception in 2006 with inspiring commitment from local groups, best illustrated by Cullen Pipe Band hosting a special concert to celebrate Culture Night.

Appreciative patrons savoured World Championship standard performances from Cullen Pipe Band Pipers and Drummers. That was supplemented by singing, dancing, music and story telling performances from the All-Ireland Comhaltas Championships in Drogheda and All Ireland Scór winners from Sligo.

Performers included the fantastic Crossfields Céilí Band U18 champions, Diarmuid Cronin U18 Storytelling champion and Maggie Moynihan Scór na nÓg Solo Singing champion among others plus Munster and County Championship performers. The local choir from the Community Games All Ireland also performed on the night.

IN MILLSTREET:

MILLSTREET groups signed up for Culture Night to deliver a diverse cultural experience enjoyed by the public.

Community Council Chairman Noel Buckley applauded all concerned with a variety of events indoors and outdoors.

“This year Millstreet built upon the success of last year’s event by continuing to provide an evening of interesting events for the public to attend and enjoy,” he said.

Millstreet Museum opened its doors, patrons observed the many historic items on display and Museum Curator Seán Radley delivered an illustrated talk on some of the rare acquisitions presented to the Museum over the years.

Outdoors, Millstreet Pipe Band avoided the showers for a recital in the Town Square with an international flavour added by the Acrobatic Rock and Roll Dance School from Drishane Castle Choir.

A Vintage Display promoted by Millstreet Vintage Club drew attention. Indoors, a painting exhibition was promoted by Bertie Buckley in addition to a display by the Millstreet Knitting Club with an art competition winning favour amongst the kids.

The Millstreet Gramophone Circle convened at the Millstreet Day Care Centre for a selection of music and song. And the bonds of friendship between Millstreet and its Breton twin Pommerit le Vicomte was maintained, culminating with a farewell function in the Wallis Arms Hotel.
