Boherbue and Dromtariffe expected to reach County JAFC semi-finals

ARGUABLY, the match of the day on the meeting of two heavyweights only at the quarter-final stage.

Interestingly, both sides required replays to retain their own divisional titles following welcome breakthroughs in 2017. Further progress was hampered, Boherbue incurring a loss to Iveleary in a county quarter final with Kilmacabea falling short to Erins Own at the semi-final stage.

Kilmacabea performed the business in a much discussed West Cork replay defeating Tadhg MacCarthaigh by a five point margin and followed up to easily account for Fr O’Neills in the county.

Big Daniel O’Donovan has returned to his home club after spending a spell with Bishopstown, elsewhere Richie O’Sullivan is available again with key man Damien Gore capable of creating an impression in attack.

Boherbue were involved in a cliff hanger against Dromtariffe, seeing off their neighbours to complete back-to-back titles.

Those tussles asked questions of Boherbue yet they answered enough of the required posers ahead of carrying too much firepower for Canovee in the opening round to the county.

The potential in Boherbue is immense with Niall Murphy, Daniel Buckley, Kevin Cremin, Billy O’Gorman and Jerry O’Connor certain to figure prominently.

At the start of the season, both Boherbue and Kilmacabea were touted about as strong contenders for county honours. This meeting holds the potential of a cracker, a strong case exists for both sides to progress yet Boherbue are capable of coming through what is definitely going to be a searching test of their credentials.

Dromtariffe v St Michaels

PRETTY hectic of late for both clubs in terms of football and hurling involvement. Again, both football outfits recovered from divisional final reversals with one side now guaranteed a county semi final slot.

Dromtariffe came close to knocking Boherbue off their perch in Duhallow, forfeiting a five point advantage in a drawn game and thereafter coming up short by a single point in a replay. However Dromtariffe reinvented themselves and a productive opening half laid the groundwork for a win over Charleville.

Dromtariffe holds a lot of quality in their side, midfielder Seamus O’Sullivan can be a major influence, backed up by Conor O’Callaghan, Jack Murphy, Daniel O’Keeffe and Shane Collins.

St Michaels contain some duel players involved with Blackrock hurling that are contesting a County IHC Final. Of late, up to seven members of their Junior side were drafted into their Premier Intermediate Football team contesting a county semi-final against Éire Óg this Saturday.

Losing to Delaneys in the City JAFC Final, St. Michaels featuring a line up with a huge wealth of underage succes dumped Valley Rovers out of contention on Tuesday night.

That win will give St Michaels confidence yet there is plenty of quality in the Dromtariffe ranks to be capable of landing a win here.
