Dromtarriffe strike back strongly in the second half to see off Charleville outfit

THIS County JAFC game at Mallow on Wednesday evening was certainly a game of ‘two halves’.
Cathal O’Carroll had the opening score for Charleville after three minutes following a three man attack. Dromtarriffe were quick to get to terms. Conor O’Callaghan had their opening score and they had a goal after seven minutes when Evan Murphy worked well for Shane Collins who goaled.
From here on Dromtarriffe used an extra defender. Their half backs and midfielders were very solid and the took control. While the Duhallow side were well on top the Charleville halfback line of Jack Doyle, Finbarr Cagney and James Kennedy defended very well under pressure.
The winners had rapid points by Conor O’Callaghan, Evan Murphy (2) and Denis O’Donoghue as they moved 1-5 to 0-1 clear after 15 minutes. Evan Murphy pointed from a free and from play with Denis O’Donoghue making it 1-8 to 0-1 after 26 minutes.
In the closing moments Brian O’Donoghue made a great run and kicked a massive point as the Duhallow side were 11 points clear at the break 1-9 to 0-1.
Charleville were a different outfit on the changeover. They gained the upperhand in midfield and their attack linked up well taking some good scores. Points by Danny O’Flynn, Mark Kavanagh, James Kennedy and Jack Doyle had the lead down to seven points after 41 minutes 1-9 to 0-5.
Mark Kavanagh and Jack Callaghan had pointed frees cutting the lead to five points entering the final quarter. Evan Murphy had Dromtarriffe’s lst score of the second half a pointed free in the 46th minute. Danny O’Flynn worked well for Jack Barry who pointed.
The turning point in the game came in the 53rd minute when Tim Hawe was put through after great play by Finbarr Cagney, Danny O’Flynn and Mark Kavanagh.
However Dan Mann made a massive save.
In the 55th minute Evan Murphy pointed a ‘45 as Dromtarriffe edged six points clear 1-11 to 0- 8. Charleville tried very hard for a goal but it was not to be with the winners full-back line holding firm.
Mark Kavanagh pointed a free.
In injury time Dromtarriffe sealed their place in the county quarter-finals when Evan Murphy pointed a free and Denis O’Donoghue landed a great point.
