McConville best in Kanturk Boxing run

THE Duhallow Athletic Club continued their autumn series of road races with leg 2 convening on Kanturk last Sunday.

Kanturk Boxing Club were the popular hosts, taking the spoils was Seán McConville from Duhallow AC with Adrian O’Connor from Millstreet filling second position. Mairéad O’Keeffe from Kanturk Road Runners took the ladies prize, Leah O’Keeffe (Kanturk Boxing/Duhallow AC) collecting runner up place.

Eight clubs have got together with promoting Duhallow AC helping to co-ordinate the schedule up to late December.

“With a growth in the level in athletics and fitness pursuits, we’re helping groups and clubs to plan races and assist in the staging. Its all very novel amongst the eager hosts drawn from three counties and the support of the public is fantastic,” Duhallow AC Chairman Donie Shine said.

The races operate on a two or three week intervals at eight locations and timed for a 1pm start on each day.

St. Peters Ladies Football and Kanturk Boxing Club hosted the opening two races. Glenlara welcomes athletes to Glash on Sunday, October 14 at 1pm followed by Kiskeam two weeks later. The action heads into Kerry heartland on Sunday, November 11 with the Brosna staging and Knocknagos­hel is the destinatio­n on Sunday, November 25.

In December it’s Mountcolli­ns as hosts on Sunday, December 2, and one of the last races of the old year sees Dromtariff­e Ladies Football sure to attract large numbers on Sunday, December 30.
