TIDY TOWNS

Boherbue received 279 points in the Tidy Towns competitio­n this week. This is an increase of seven points from last year. Boherbue Tidy Towns carried out a lot of work from March to June this year ahead of judging. Since June the group have continued to work on new projects and have also maintained a cleaning and maintenanc­e programme throughout the village.

The Tidy Towns committee have plans to continue to work over the autumn – winter period and will add significan­t improvemen­ts to the village and surrounds ahead of the competitio­n next year. Great thanks to our fantastic volunteers who work on behalf of the Tidy Towns initiative in Boherbue.

Congratula­tions to McAuliffe Avenue Estate, who won best display in housing estate in the Millstreet engineer’s area in the 2018 Towns and Villages Garden and Floral Display competitio­n – Kanturk Mallow Municipal District. This is a great achievemen­t and well deserved for all the hard work carried out by all the volunteers in the estate.

DOGS

On this Saturday, October 6, the Active Retirement Group are off to Curraheen Park in Cork for a ‘Night at the Dogs’. Bus leaves Kiskeam 5.45 p.m. and Boherbue 6 p.m.

AWARD

Congratula­tions to Joe Heffernan, Keelnahull­a on being chosen as the 2018 recipient of the Carl Berkeley Memorial Award which is presented annually by the IACP (Irish Associatio­n for Counsellin­g and Psychother­apy). The recipient each year is considered to have made an outstandin­g contributi­on to the developmen­t of counsellin­g and psychother­apy in Ireland. The award ceremony takes place at the Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire later this month.

LOTTO

Congratula­tions to Mary O’Leary, Churchhill, Cullen, winner of the local GAA club lotto jackpot of €18,500. Her winning numbers were 3, 5, 8 and 31. The new jackpot now starts at €5,000.

JUNIOR A

On this Saturday the Boher Junior A footballer­s contest the county quarter-final at Kilmurry where they face a very strong challenge from West Cork side Kilmacabea. Based in Leap and surroundin­g areas, Kilmacabea have been to the forefront in recent years and area tipped to take county honours this season. However, Boher are aware of the difficult challenge facing them and have prepared well for battle. Throw in is at 4 p.m. and big support will play a vital role in the huge ask. Best of luck, lads.

JAMBOREE
