Kilcorney Dromtariffe
DROMTARRIFFE GAA
Mixed fortunes for our Junior sides in the opening rounds of the junior county championship during the past week. On Wednesday our footballers travelled to Mallow to take on Charlevilld in the opening round of the Coumty JAFC. Throughout the field , during the opening half Dromtarriffe held the upper hand on the opponents and a first half Shane Collins goal helped them to a 1-9 to 0-1 half time lead.
Second half and determined Charleville side closed the gap through six unanswered points but helped through Evan Murphy and Denis O’Donoghue points and some great defensive play Dromtarriffe held onto a 1-13 to 0-9 victory. Dromtarriffe await the winners of Valley Rovers and St Michaels in the quarter final.
Our hurlers travelled to Ovens on Sunday and met Ballinascarthy in their opening round. Despite the determined efforts of the team and subs it wasn’t to be on the day and they lost by 2 -14 to 2-12. Our thanks to our Duhallow JA Hurling Champions management and 27 players for all their commitment during 2018 bringing home a 1st divisional title.
BOWLING NOTES
Winter Competitions-Danny Murphy and Paddy O’Keeffe were the players on form with a bowl of odds win over Ned Kelleher and Donal Cashman. The return score was a much closer affair. Two great finishing shots by Kelleher and Maurice Cashman almost upset the apple cart, with Murphy and O’Keeffe taking the score by a small margin.

GERARD OWENS BLITZ – On Saturday, September 29, Killavullen under-12s hosted Clyda Rovers in hurling for the Gerard Owens Memorial Cup. From the outset, Killavullen captain Owen Magner led from the front, his pace and cracking accuracy putting Killavullen ahead before Clyda had time to settle. Clyda were quick to respond, but the forward lines of Eoghan Forde, Dara O’Neill, and Colm Hayes never allowed Killavullen’s lead to falter.
Colm O’Mahony, Tomás Fennell and Niall Feahny were outstanding in midfield, with Colm’s unerring long-range free-taking a vital part of the team’s game and a critical contribution to the score-sheet.
In the back line, Evan Sheehan, Séamus Cronin and Cormac McCarthy battled every attack with characteristic determination, while at full back, Charlie Cremin displayed the skill and composure that’s been his hallmark over the season.
Killavullen were able to draw on a strong substitute bench, with Conor O’Neill, David Walsh, Yann Ó Súilleabháin, Jack Stafford, and Rory Browne all making significant contributions, and with Peter O’Sullivan in goals pulling off a series of pressure saves in the closing quarter to hold off a determined Clyda attack.
Darragh O’Connor, proving that he’s not just a goal-stopper, but a goal-getter, sealed the game with a final score for victory for Killavullen. After the final whistle, Deirdre Owens presented the Gerard Owens Memorial Cup to Killavullen captain Owen Magner.
Thanks to Clyda Rovers for their competitive and sporting engagement in an important fixture in the Killavullen calendar.
