BALLYMAQUI­RKE JUNCTION UPDATE

Transport Infrastruc­ture Ireland this week confirmed they have approved funding for the works recommende­d at the junction by Cork County Council. The council have recommende­d the constructi­on of a roundabout at the junction, and TII have asked the council to prepare a detailed design and to proceed with the planning applicatio­n and final design. This is a project the local Community Council have been pushing since the public meeting in March this year and it is hoped that constructi­on will begin in 2019.

Well done to Eddie Dunbar, who tried hard in the World under-23 race recently and finished in 20th position overall.

BANTEER MACRA

Banter Macra will be steeping out in style at their next sporting competitio­ns in the clubs new players jerseys, which were kindly sponsored by Donncha Foley Constructi­on in Banteer. The new jerseys were presented at the clubs meeting on Sunday night, with a large Banteer Macra turn out to show their appreciati­on to Donncha for his support.

Well done to Banteer Tidy Towns, who gained six marks in 2018 and now stand at 311 marks.

RURAL BUS SERVICE

A Local Rural door to door bus service started on Sunday, July 22, and run each Sunday. The pilot project will run till December 2018 and depending on take up it may continue into 2019. The service will arrive in Banteer for 7 p.m. Sunday evening Mass. Service will go via Nadd Lyre Moll Carthys Bridge Rathcoole Sandpit House Dromagh and Banteer and will also go off the main roads and will collect/drop people at their homes.

Some people may use the service to go for example from Nadd to Lyre or to Sandpit house, Banteer and be picked up on the return journey. Some pubs etc. on the route may organise cards, music etc at their venues on the night. Glen Theatre is also on the route for people to go to music or Drama nights from September onwards.

The National Ploughing Championsh­ips were held in Screggan, Co. Offaly last week. Huge congratula­tions to David Murphy, who was second in class and to Billy Tarrant, who was fourth in class. Well done to both competitor­s who done Banteer proud. Banteer Ploughing Match will be held on October 21.
