Files for the DPP following Fermoy drugs seizures

- BILL BROWNE

GARDAI have struck another significant blow in their fight against drugs in the north Cork region following three unrelated seizures in the Fermoy area last week over a 24-hour period.

Suspected cocaine and cannabis with a total estimated street value of just under €6,000 were seized under ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of narcotics across the region.

At around 1.30am last Wednesday morning Gardaí stopped and searched a car in the Moorepark area, seizing €2,900 worth of cocaine. Later that day Gardaí executed a search warrant at the house in the Ard Mhuillean Estate at around 10.30pm where they found €1,100 worth of suspected cannabis.

Shortly after midnight on Thursday morning a car was stopped and searched in Castleyons, and €1,900 worth of cocaine seized.

All of the drugs seized were sent away to the Garda forensic lab for examination.

While no arrests were made resulting from the detections, files are in the process of being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for each of the three incidents.

Speaking at Fermoy Garda station Detective Inspector Brian Goulding said the force would pro-actively investigate those involved in the sale and supply of drugs.

“Drugs can have a huge impact on communities and towns throughout the country and should have no place in our society, Theses latest drug seizures highlight An Garda Siochána’s commitment to enhancing the quality of public life in our community,” he said.
