Canovee win out in competitive Mary Casey Blitz

-

MARY Casey U-13 Blitz: Macroom, Aghinagh, Canovee and Kilmichael contested this 15-a-side tournament on Sunday morning in Tom Creedon Park.

A cool and bright morning provided an ideal backdrop for football. Canovee won all their games and the other three teams won one game each. On a back-count, Macroom qualified to meet Canovee in the decider.

In the five minutes-a-half final, Macroom led by 0-1 to 0-0 at the break. Shortly after, Canovee got a goal and a point and finished up as worthy winners. Macroom can be proud of their efforts in the final.

Mary Casey was a great supporter of Macroom GAA Club. Her sons, Ivan and Stephen, played many sterling matches. Pat, her widow, presented the cup. Also, present were Mary’s and Pat’s daughters, Priscilla and Jacinta, and grandchildren Caleb and Josh. Josh played with Macroom in the tournament.

Afterwards Refreshments were served. In spite of many time-alterations, Aghinagh, Canovee and Kilmichael were most accommodating. Diarmuid, Catherine, Concubhar, Donagh, Jeremy, Mark, Ann, Geraldine, Claire and others did tremendous work and the club is grateful for that.

Eoin Cahill and Tadg Sheehan refereed the games well. Without injuries or contention, all enjoyed a very entertaining and pleasant morning’s football.

JUNIOR Cs: The Junior Cs were beaten by a very good Dripsey side in the Muskerry semi-final in Carrigadrohid on Sunday.

On a glorious autumn day, Dripsey attacked from the outset and were 0-5 to 0-1 ahead after 12 minutes.

Darragh Deasy goaled to narrow the gap but Dripsey continued to dominate, kicked some good points, and led by 0-10 to 1-1 at the break.

Macroom played the second half with 14 men and notched some early points. Dripsey continued to play well and ran out easy winners.

CLUB RACE NIGHT: This will be held in The Castle Hotel on this Saturday, October 20.
