Writer, poet Nuala to judge 2019 Flash Fiction at arts festival
KANTURK Arts Festival is delighted to have award winning writer and novelist Nuala O’Connor as judge for its 2019 Flash Fiction Competition.
Nuala, who is Dublin born and who now lives in County Galway, is a major voice in Irish literature in recent years. She has published one novel, four collections of short fiction and three poetry collections - one an anthology.
She has won numerous competitions, including The Francis McManus Short Story Award. Her novels include the highly acclaimed ‘ You’, ‘Miss Emily’ and ‘Becoming Belle’.
“We are delighted to get Nuala for our next festival,” festival PRO Mary Angland said, “It’s a great coup. We’re also delighted that she will be giving a workshop on creative writing on Saturday, March 16 but there will be more details on that nearer the time.”
The 2019 Flash Fiction Competition is now accepting entries. Prize money for the competition is: 1st €200, 2nd €100 and 3rd €75. The competition is free to enter and the word count is 500 words maximum. Closing date for entries is November 28, 2018. Full details and the visual prompt can be found on www. kanturkarts.ie.
Last year’s inaugural Flash Fiction Competition was a tremendous success with entries coming in, not only from Ireland, but also from Britain, USA, and Europe. The 2018 winners were: 1st ‘Footprints’ by Jamie Samson; 2nd ‘One Thousand Years’ by Niamh MacCabe; joint 3rd: ‘ Two Deckchairs’ by Mike Guerin and ‘Life’s Ebb and Flow’ by K.C. Kingston.
Organisers are now looking forward to another record number of top-class entries.
