Contrite Kieran is the king of comedy at Toastmasters
KIERAN Butler of Cecilstown emerged victorious at the recent Speakeasy Toastmasters Humorous Speech Contest.
With a speech entitled ‘Development’, Kieran regaled a large attendance with his confession about his addiction to self-development courses. Whatever it is - foreign languages, under graduate, master degree courses - Kieran cannot resist the temptation and, like Oscar Wilde, yields to it.
With much hilarity, he described his attempt at “going cold turkey” and breaking down while binge watching Love Island, Big Brother and Gogglebox on TV.
Kieran will now go forward to represent Speakeasy Toastmasters in the North Cork Area Final which takes place in Fermoy on November 6th.
Accompaning Kieran on that night will be Speech Contestant runner-up, Michael Cronin and the winning Table Topics Contestants, Ray Ryan and Pat Sexton.
Winning Contestants at Speakeasy Toastmasters were Kieran Butler, Michael Cronin, 1st and 2nd place in the Humorous Speech Contest; Ray Ryan and Pat Sexton, 1st and 2nd Table Topics Contest, with Marie Fitzpatrick, Contest Chairperson.
Speakeasy Toastmasters draws its membership from the large area of North Cork, from West Duhallow to North Avondhu and to the edge of Cork City. Club meetings are held on a forthnighy basis.
