ON what was the busiest weekend of the season so far the Mallow under 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s girls were playing rugby in vastly different conditions.

On a wet and stormy Saturday, the under 16s and 18s headed to Ennis for league matches while the minis girls practiced in the town park in similar conditions.

On Sunday, under blue and sunny skies, the under 14s travelled to Clonakilty for a blitz with the under 12s also participating in a blitz on the day in Limerick.

Special thanks to the coaches who travelled with the girls to the various locations over the weekend.

Ian Vaughan, girls rugby co-ordinator with Mallow RFC, was delighted that so many girls got to participate in matches on the weekend, especially those participating in their first competitive rugby games.

Mallow Rugby Club has a minis girls section (under 8, 10 and 12) that practices from 10am to 11am in Mallow Town Park on Saturdays, as well as under 14, 16 and 18 girls teams (practices on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm to 8.30pm in the park.

New girls are always welcome and no sports experience is necessary and coaches ensure that all the girls learn rugby skills and participate in non-contact and contact games based on individual girls interests and abilities.

For more information on the girls rugby programme, please contact the club’s girls rugby coordinator Ian Vaughan at 0862510504 or vaughani@ eircom.net
