Make your voice heard at key town plan meeting tonight

-

THE second meeting to formulate the socio-economic plan for Charleville town is on this Thursday evening at the Charleville Park Hotel starting at 8pm.

The first meeting in September attracted representatives of 35 clubs, organisations and community groups in the town and area, who participated in a lively discussion on the shortcomings of the town.

Their suggestions and ideas for Charleville into the future will form the basis of the discussion at this Thursday’s meeting, and locals are invited to have their say to influence the outcome of the final plan, which will be presented at the November meeting. It is intended that the discussion at tonight’s meeting will be included in the final plan which will enhance the life of the town over the next five years.

Charleville is your town and it is up to all of its citizens to have their say in shaping the future of life in the town.

In the first meeting issues that came up for discussion included environment such as footpaths, roads and by-pass for heavy traffic, be it the M20 motorway or a relief road. The lack of facilities, amenities and services, especially in terms of access to medical services for an ageing population, such as a locally based ambulance and out of hours doctor services and more nursing home places, as well as more sheltered housing.

There was also a call for the upgrading of the town park; However, this is currently being undertaken by Cork County Council.

Other issues that surfaced included lack of facilities for a growing population, integration of new people that come to live in the town, and a festival celebrating diversity was also called for to celebrate intercultural differences. An audit of all sports facilities locally was also requested to identify gaps in the sector.

This is YOUR opportunity to get involved and make your voice heard to influence the outcome of the proposed plan, so be at the meeting tonight at the Charleville Park Hotel to have your say in the future of your Charleville.
