Dromtariffe should be up against it

Dromtariffe v Iveleary

IT’S a quick return to action for Dromtariffe after overcoming St. Michaels on Tuesday night.

Both sides harbour ambitions of going all the way towards lifting outright county honours and with no margin for error at this stage of the season, it makes for a cracking contest.

Iveleary are back in familiar territory this season, last autumn, they overcame Bohebue in a quarter final only to relent to eventual county, Munster and All Ireland club JAFC Knocknagee by a single point.

With the margin so tight, its inevitable that Iveleary will reflect on wasted opportunities in addition to the loss of key forwards Cathal Vaughan (injury) and Brian Cronin (black card) as factors to their eventual demise.

Previously, Iveleary had reached a county final only to lose the 2015 decider to Bandon. Earlier from 2018, Iveleary made no mistake regaining the Muskerry honours by defeating Canovee.

And Iveleary were in business in the county series to overcome Buttevant and a depleted Midleton in a quarter-final.

Neither Vaughan and Cronin started those games yet with a final spot up grabs, the pair may well figure on Saturday and join Barry Murphy, Ciaran Galvin, Ger O’Riordan and Chris Óg Jones.

For their part, Dromtariffe entered the county championship as divisional runners up after relenting to holders Boherbue by the narrowest of margins after a replay. Into the county campaign and winning in the manner as they did against Canovee was of huge encouragement for Dromtariffe.

Again, a decent showing against St Michaels in a quarter final, a pair of Shane Collins goals proved key with Seamus O’Sullivan, Adam Buckley, Conor O’Callaghan and Daniel O’Keeffe delivering capable performances.

It’s all of 23 years since Dromtariffe last stood in a county JAFC semi-final only to falter to Tadgh MacCarthaigh after a replay. Despite mixed outcomes in respective divisional finals, this encounter sees strong sides seek a place in a county showpiece.

A young Dromtariffe team have emerged here on merit yet they face an experienced Iveleary line up. It makes for an intriguing clash, if Iveleary play near to full strength, they should be good enough to jump a formidable Dromtariffe obstacle. Iveleary
