Glitz and glamour at West Muskerry AC Fashion Show
What a fantastic success the West Muskerry AC fundraising Fashion Show was on Saturday night at The Riverside Park Hotel.
MC on the night was former TG4 presenter Grett O’Connor and special guests included Martin Coughlan and Fr John Keane.
There were plenty of budding models of all ages, including West Muskerry AC Special Olympic athletes Ciara, John and Denis.
Shops supporting the event included Cronins Macroom, Gay Girl Macroom, Illusions Dunmanway, Carrig Donn Ballincollig, New Look Ballincollig, Serenity Ballincollig, Silk Peaches Ballincollig, Desmonds Menswear Ballincollig and Munster Fire and safety Millstreet.
Sponsors were Coolea Cheese, Supervalu Macroom, Aldi, Rochestown Park Hotel, and Illusions and there were some fantastic spot prizes donated too.
Organisers have also thanked Lucia Ryan for the flower arrangements, The Riverside Park Hotel who were very accommodating and the chef who provided the food, DJ Mike (Michael O’Sullivan) who provided the music and Peter Lane who provided lights.
Meanwhile, the West Muskerry athletes after strutting their stuff on Saturday night headed to Beaufort in Kerry on Sunday morning to compete in the Munster Even Age Cross Country Championships and put in fantastic performances.
There were over 120 athletes in every race and the pace was lightning fast. Medals were awarded to the first 12 across the line, the first three club teams and the first three County teams.
In the Girls U12 2,000m Katie O’Neill finished eighth and now qualifies for the All Ireland in November. She also helped Cork secure the gold medals. Her teammate Eabha Ni Chonaola also qualified for the All Ireland.
The club team finished in fifth position: Katie O’Neill, Eabha Ni Chonaola, Kate Downey, Rebecca O’Neill, Fern Mullane, Emily Cronin and Katie Purcell.
In the Boys U18 6,000m, Tadhg Manning also ran a superb race. After taking a year out for exams he is now back training again and won the gold medal as part of the Cork team. His teammate Sean finished just behind him and also qualifies for the All Ireland on the Cork team. The team are Tadhg Manning, Sean O’Sullivan, Dara Myres and Cathal MacParthalan.
In the Girls U18 4,000m race West Muskerry had three athletes - Jennifer Cotter, Caoimhe O’Leary and Caitlin Hurley. All three qualified for the All Ireland. Jennifer Cotter and Caoimhe O’Leary won the silver medals as part of the Cork team.
In the boys U14 race Jamie Hourihan, Breandan O’Sullivan, James Lucey and James O’Neill all ran superb. Jamie Hourihan qualified on the Cork team and all four boys qualified for the All Ireland in the club team competition. In the girls U16 4,000m Shannon Cotter qualified for the All Ireland with the Cork team. She along with her teammates Eimear O’Leary, Brigin Kelleher, Aoife Downey and Beibhinn Moynihan also qualified for the All Ireland
All athletes ran superb and some were just out of the medals.
