Building up to Selfbuild show in Millstreet

FOR anyone planning a build or making renovations to their existing homes, it always good to draw from the knowledge of experienced professionals and experts who have spent a lifetime working in the construction sector.

The return of Selfbuild Live Cork to the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet next month will offer people a welcome opportunity to do just that, with more than 110 exhibitors signed up for the two-day event on November 11 & 12.

Event co-ordinator Calum Lennon said that the event, now in its 15th year, will offer visitors the opportunity to get all the help and advice they need to “turn their dreams into reality”.

“If you are building or renovating, you will probably already aware of the sheer volume of choice out there. By going to see it for yourself from local suppliers, the task of picking out which products and systems are right for you becomes that little bit less daunting,” said Calum.

“That is where Selfbuild Live comes into its own. It is an unrivalled showcase of what’s on offer. From windows and doors to roofing to external finishes and security and pretty much everything else you might need, it will all be there under one roof.”

Experts on interior design will also be on hand to offer tips and advice and help to set the tone for any job, with the topic of energy efficient systems also set to be high on the agenda.

“With new renovation grants available from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland for heat pumps and solar photovoltaic panels, you will be able to seek advice on what systems suits you taking into account issues such as insulation, ventilation, heating and hot water options,” said Calum.

Selfbuild Live will also feature the return of one-to-one personal advice clinics from home and garden suppliers and experts in other fields that may be less obvious such as planning, insurance and warranties.

“No pre-booking is needed. All you need to do is turn up with a plan, even if it is only a sketch, to get tailored advice,” said Callum.

“Last, but not least, the Selfbuild boot camp theatre, hosted by construction expert John Corless, will take people through the entire build process from finding a site, getting planning permission, an overview of various building methods and managing project through to its conclusion,” he added.
