Work ongoing to progress new Kanturk library

CORK County Council has recently leased a building in Strand St, Kanturk for the purpose of relocating the library in Kanturk Town.

Unfortunately, there have been some unforeseen delays in getting the building renovated to an acceptable standard for public use. Cork County Council is working with the owner of the building in trying to rectify these issues as quickly as possible.

In the interim, Cllr. John Paul O’Shea can confirm that a mobile library has been refurbished and will be located in the Kanturk Mart car-park from this Friday and wired up to electricity etc to commence a full library service on Tuesday 30th October (day after bank holiday). This will be a full time five-day per week service.

The stock within the mobile library will be frequently replenished and updated.

Newmarket library will be open full time hours this week as it has been since Kanturk closed and will revert next week, not to its original 14 hours but to 21 hours, at least, for the rest of the year.

The children’s book festival has not passed Kanturk by as Cork County Library Service have organised author visits for the schools, and there will be a special literary day in December in the Trade Union Hall where renowned children’s authors will read and discuss books and writing with families.
