City Ballet to return with magical new production
FOR more than a quarter of a century Cork City Ballet (CCB) has been enthralling audiences with their stunning productions of celebrated works featuring some of the world’s foremost dancers.
For their latest production the company will return to the stage of the Cork Opera House next month for four performances of their full-length production of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece ‘ Nutcracker’.
Directed by CCB artistic director Alan Foley, and choreographed by Yuri Demakov of the world famous Bolshoi Ballet, it will feature the world renowned prima ballerina Ekaterina Bortyakova from the Moscow State Ballet in the main role of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
She will be joined on the stage by her husband, Akzhol Mussakhanov from the Bolshoi Ballet, as her ‘Prince’, principals, soloists and a full corps de ballet.
Mr Foley said the production would “lead audiences on an enchanting journey through the Land of Snow to the magical Kingdom of the Sweets”.
“Enhanced by magnificent costumes made at the Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet in St Petersburg and with Tchaikovsky’s glorious music, ‘Nutcracker’ promises to be a thrilling spectacle of sumptuous dance delights,” he said.
“In these tough economic times, Cork City Ballet is proud to continue to represent the classical ballet genre in our home city with a spectacular venue that is sure to please every cultural palate at an affordable price.”
The Nutcracker will run at the Cork Opera House from Thursday, November 8 – Sunday, November 10 at 8pm, with a 2.30pm matinee performance on Sunday.
Tickets from the venue on 021 427 0022 or www.corkoperahouse.ie priced from €25 to €43.
A family pass is also available for €120.
