Tremendous team effort gets the job done in Boherbue
Co-operation by several organisations facilitated the construction of the new footpath in Boherbue village and also the refurbishment of the existing children’s playground.
Peadar O’Callaghan, who is the chairman of the local development association, welcomed everybody to the opening last Friday evening and said the completion of the footpath was a dream come true for so many people in Boherbue. “This magnificent project and the recent resurfacing of the road makes it so easy for people to walk to the graveyard from the village,” Peadar said.
Peadar thanked everybody involved in bringing both projects to fruition. “These projects are an excellent example of a community interaction with stakeholders and statutory bodies to make it all come about,” he added.
These sentiments were echoed by Michael Cronin, chairman of the Tidy Towns Committee and Councillor Bernard Moynihan, who cut the ribbon and officially opened the new footpath.
Minister Michael Creed was also present for the opening. “This was an excellent team effort and a fantastic achievement,” Minister Creed said.
Diane Finucane who was one of the delegation from Cork County Council that attended the opening, told The Corkman that the council was delighted to facilitate the Boherbue walkway from the co-op to the graveyard. “This project will facilitate leisure walking, improve amenity and access, and alleviate health and safety concerns for the community,” Diane said.
The project was the first in Kanturk Mallow Municipal District part funded by the National Town and Village Renewal Scheme of the Department of Community, Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht funnelled through Cork County Council.
This together with financial contributions from Cork County Council, the Leader Programme through IRD Duhallow, and Boherbue Co-op made the project possible. Boherbue Playground was also enhanced complete with Zip-line, through the dedicated work of the playground committee assisted by CLAR funding.
