Plunketts see off Kilara

REBEL ÓG NORTHERN REGION UNDER 16 B 1 FL SEMI FINAL

BK Plunkett’s 3-10 Kilara Óg 3-5

THE overall balance, teamwork and scoring power of BK Plunkett’s proved decisive as they emerged five point winners over Kilara Óg in the Rebel Óg Northern Region Under 16 B 1 FL semi final at Kilworth on Monday night.

The local side (Kilworth-Araglin) got off to a perfect start. They had a first minute goal when Ben Carey put Michael Sheehan through. They had their second goal in the 3rd minute by Dean Jordan.

The Boherbue-Knocknagree side gradually got to terms and they had four points on the trot by Cathal Ducey, Liam Moynihan (2) and by Tadhg O’Mahony after good play by Liam Moynihan, Anthony O’Connor, Michael McSweeney and Dan Sheehan. BK Plunkett’s forced a penalty when Liam Moynihan was fouled.

Cathal Ducey converted the penalty and Plunkett’s were 1-4 to 2-0 ahead. Dean Jordan levelled before Dan Sheehan with a pointed gave the Duhallow side the lead again.

In the 25th minute Dean Jordan with a free levelled at 1-5 to 2-2. Kilara Og keeper Killian Heggtveit saved well from Liam Moynihan. In the closing moments Liam Moynihan pointed a free that had the winners 1-6 to 2-2 ahead at the break.

On the restart Liam Moynihan pointed a free for BK Plunkett’s.

Kilara Óg hit the front with a Jake Buckley goal. The winners replied immediately when Dan Sheehan put Cathal Ducey in for a goal 2-7 to 3-2. Diarmuid Allen with a good point cut the lead to the minimum.

Michael Murphy made some great clearances for BK Plunketts. Good play by Michael McSweeney Denis O’Mahony and Liam Moynihan led to a fine Tadhg O’Mahony point as the winners led 2-8 to 3-3.

Further pressure led to points by Cathal Ducey and Liam Moynihan (free) 2- 10 to 3-3. The winners third goal came in the 52nd minute when Cormac Hartnett placed Cathal Ducey who netted 3-10 to 3-3. Kilara Óg battled to the end.

They had two points by Mark Carey but there was no denying BK Plunkett’s their place in the final against Clyda Rovers.
