OPENING

On Friday evening last, October 19 a huge crowd assembled in the SuperValu car park for the official opening of the recently completed new footpath from the village to the cemetery, a necessary step to make it safe for those who regularly make that journey. Also, referred to was the refurbishment of the children play area at Laharn which recently got a complete overhaul.

The attendance included Deputy Michael Creed Minister for Agriculture, Cllr Bernard Moynihan deputising for the Lord Mayor, Deputy Michael Moynihan, Cllrs John Paul O’Shea and Gerard Murphy along with senior officials and engineers from both the Mallow and Millstreet council offices and IRD Duhallow and project engineer Denis Quinn. Speakers included Community Council chairman Peadar O’Callaghan, Tidy Towns chairman Michael Cronin, Cllr Moynihan, who performed the official opening and Deputy Creed.

The aforementioned Peadar and Michael were the two appointed locally to oversee the project and they too deserved to be complimented for their work, many tributes were paid to various individuals for their contributors but none other than to landowner Trish Murphy for her help and co-operation which allowed the project to progress rapidly.

The main contractor Michael Cronin, Droumscarra too was the recipient of many tributes with the quality of his teams workmanship there to be seen. Afterwards, all adjourned to Anne’s Kitchen for some light refreshments and entertainment. See report by staff reporter Sheila Fitzgerald in this paper.
