CHURCH NEWS

VIDEO STREAMING – A video streaming facility has been installed in the church to allow weekday and Sunday Mass as well as funeral and wedding ceremonies etc. to be broadcast over the internet. While primarily intended for the sick and housebound, the service is also open to anyone who wishes to have it. The first phase is experimentally operative by logging on to the website mcnmedia.tv/. Family and friends overseas might like to log into this website to see the Parish Masses and what is happening in the Parish Church. Over the next few weeks, we hope to move to the next phase which is to provide a connection for the sick and housebound. Enquiries about the connection can be made in the sacristy or to 086 3016859.

PRAYERS FOR THE UNBORN – Prayers for the unborn will be said at all Masses in the parish and you are asked to join with these in your intentions. Mother Teresa (one of her famous quotes)’ A Nation that destroys the life of an unborn child, who has been created for living and loving, who has been created in the image of God, is in tremendous poverty’.

CHURCH COLLECTIONS – On the Sundays that there are two collections, the church door collection will be taken up at the offertory and the special collection will be taken up after Holy Communion.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTIONS – No church gate collection taken up at St Mary’s Church, Ballyhea is endorsed by the parish. Any group or organisation intending to collect outside the church gates are asked to present copies of their permits in the sacristy, together with copies of letters of authorisation of those collecting on their behalf. This should be done before the collection commences.

NEW CHURCH WINDOWS – Work has commenced on the making of new windows for the church. The first window has been installed and and the next two windows are being installed at present. The new windows will be timber sash windows modelled on those of St John the Baptist Church in Kinsale which was built in 1832 by the same architect as Ballyhea, Br. Michael Augustine Riordan. The new window installed in the church last week will become the parish memorial to the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland. If anyone or any family wishes to sponsor a window, this can be done by a single subscription or by a number of subscriptions over a period of time. One window will be open to public subscription, anyone can contribute any amount to it if they so wish. Please contact the parish priest – Monsignor O’Brien.

DISPENSATION FROM SERVILE WORK – In view of the poor weather which we have experienced over the past few months, general dispensation is granted from the obligation to abstain from all unnecessary servile work on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, from Ascension Thursday till October 31.

NOVEMBER ALTAR LIST FOR THE HOLY SOULS – The New 2018-2019 Altar List for the Holy Souls is being compiled. Please forward the names of those whom you wish to have included in the new list. Purgatorial Society forms are available in the church Porch. The first of these Masses will be celebrated on November 25 and on every First Friday thereafter.

CHURCH IMPROVEMENT WORKS – 2018 Improvement Works on the grounds of St Mary’s Church are now nearing completion. These were made possible by a generous grant from Castlepook Wind Farm Community Development Fund. Many thanks to SECAD for organising this. Many thanks to Pat McCurry and Kilmallock Tarmacadam for resurfacing the path at the Northside of the church which was also made possible by a generous grant of €2,500 from Castlepook Wind Farm Development Fund.

STATION AREAS – Over the coming months a review of the Station Areas will take place with a view to establishing a rota. Those areas with six or more houses will be retained. Those areas with less than six houses taking the Stations will be amalgamated with other areas to bring the number up to six.

PARISH/SCHOOL GENERAL PURPOSES AREA – Please note that some of the plans and drawings for the new Parochial/School General Purposes Area are on exhibition in the church Porch. This will replace the former Parish Hall and will be available out of School hours for parish activities. Any constructive comments are welcome.
