KILLAVULLEN GAIN PROMOTION
On Saturday last, in splendid autumnal sunshine, and on a perfect pitch in Buttevant, Killavullen won the Division 2 Avondhu league by defeating Ballyhea on a final score of 2-21 to 2-16.
The semi-final of this competition was played on the 22nd August so both teams are to be commended on their zeal and application, in a long season.
Killavullen would not have been entirely happy with their first-half performance, their simply were too many mistakes and the sliotar was dropped on several occasions, but it has been hard to maintain momentum in a long season. John Hartnett and his management team were not for taking excuses though, and galvanised the team for the 2nd period.
Barry Ahern as chairman of the Avondhu board presented the cup to our stand in captain, Liam Cronin, in the absence of Pa Sheehan. Liam also picked up the man of the match award.
The management team of John Hartnett, Barry Murphy, Tommy Cremin and John Breenan are to be praised for holding the spirit of the team together over a long season.
We had won the Munster Junior B Club competition on the 21st January so to be still playing in October is very hard.
To be playing division 1 hurling next year is fantastic for this very talented bunch of players.
In the privacy of the dressing room, John and his troupe thanked the players sincerely for their fine efforts, and their willingness and application.
