| Newcomers Kilbrin hit winning debut in darts cup

THE First Round (First leg) of the Blackwater Valley Darts Cup commenced on Friday, November 2.

Kilbrin Social Club travelled to Maureens for their match. The newcomers to the league got off to a flying start with Michael O’Connor beating Pat Angland 3-1. Maureens levelled it with Andrew Clarke beating Paddy McMahon 3-2. Kilbrin hit back with Pat Healy beating Patrick Angland 3-0. The momentum was now with Kilbrin and they succeeded in winning the next three singles. Alan Ballantyne beating Klaus Richter 3- 1, Alan Mullane beating James Angland 3-0 and Mike Kennedy beating Dave O’Brien 3-0.

With Kilbrin now leading 5-1 in the singles. Next up were the doubles, Kilbrin’s Alan Ballantyne and William Heffernan beating Sean Dilworth and Klaus Richter 3-2. Maureens fought back with Peter O’Donovan and Luke O’Connell beating Alan Mullane and Thomas Mullane 3-0.

The final score Maureens 2, Kilbrin Social Club 6.

The Mousetrap were home to the Bridge House for their game.

The Bridge came out firing on all cylinders, winning the first three singles - Alan Foley beating Johnny Griffin 3-1, Eddie O’Rourke beating Owen Doyle 3-0 and Colm Cahill beating John Sullivan 3-1. The Mousetrap rallied with Adrian O’Sullivan beating Jason Carey 3-0 and Alan O’Donoghue beating Alan Flynn 3-1. The Bridge house put a stop to the comeback with Nicky Sherman beating Martin Doyle 3-0.

That left Bridge House leading 4-2 in the singles.

Next up were the doubles and the Bridge house carried on where they left off in the singles, with Eddie O’Rourke and Alan Flynn beating Martin Doyle and Adrian O’Sullivan 3-0, Nicky Sherman and Colm Cahill beating Owen Doyle and Alan O Donoghue 3-0.

The Final score was Mousetrap 2 – Bridge House 6.

Neighbours from Buttevant, Horgans and Kit Roches clashed in this encounter. It was always going to be a close contest and it turned out to be just that.

Home team Horgans got off to a flying start when Chris Holmes beat Kevin Linehan 3-0 and Adrian Holmes beat Raymond Harrington 3-2. Kit Roches fought back with Aaron Ryan beating Daithi Linehan 3-2 and Tim Deady beating Mick Dunlea 3-2. The in-form Rob Harrington beat Chris O’Toole 3-0 with two excellent check-outs of 160 and 120 which put Horgans in front again.

Kit Roches’ Ger McCarthy beat Pa Holmes 3-2 to leave it all square 3-3 after the singles.

Horgans drew first blood in the doubles when Adrian Holmes and Robert Harrington beat Raymond Harrington and Chris O’Toole 3-0. Kit’s pair Aaron Ryan and Kevin Linehan beat Chris Holmes and Mikey Bowles 3-0.

This was certainly an outstandin­g battle on the oice with the final scoring reading Horgans 4 – Kit Roches 4.

Daly’s were at home to newcomers to the league Corkerys of Dromahane. Corkerys started well with Peter Heslin beating Gerry Black 3-1. This seemed to spur Daly’s into action when Moss Lynch beat Will O’Shea 3-0, Brendan Mathews beat Timmy O’Sullivan 3-0, Johnny Holland beat Nicholas Corkery 3-0, Tony Hartnett dosposed of Stephen Cronin 3-0 and Darren Lynch overcame Seamus O’Dea 3-0 with Daly’s leading 5-1 after the singles.

Next up were the doubles and there was no stopping Daly’s with Brendan Mathews and Gerry Black beating Peter Heslin and Nicholas Corkery 3-0. Finally, Johnny Holland and Darren Lynch defeated Timmy O’Sullivan and Will O’Shea 3-1 with the final score reading Dalys 7 – Corkerys 1.

The second leg of the Cup will be played on Friday, November 9.
