Rebels set for clash with Cats in 60x30 deciders

SATURDAY will be an important day for Mallow Credit Union sponsored Cork U-12/13 and U-14/15 teams as they travel to Dungarvan to face Kilkenny in 60x30 All-Ireland Team Championsh­ip Finals.

In 12/13 Cork will be striving to achieve the double having won the 40x20 title earlier in the year, a win on Saturday would be a huge boost for juvenile Handball in the county. Cork field a well balanced team which include four Fermoy players - Ben Sullivan, Cian Cronin O’Neill, Cameron O’Sullivan and Hayden Supple, two Boherbue players Tomas O’Connor and Donal Murphy, Cian Dunning from Conna, and Mallow’s Wesley Delany. Kilkenny also have a strong line up and won’t be easily beaten, but Cork players have prepared well and are hopeful of a good performanc­e on the day.

In 14/15 Final Cork also face Kilkenny and again a tough battle is expected, Cork have won this title a few times over the years and will again be hopeful of doing well on this occasion. The Cork on duty on Saturday will have four Ballydesmo­nd players Darragh Murphy, Eoghan Daly, John Cronin, Michael Mullane,Boherbue player Dan Sheahan, Mallow player Eric Delany.

The 40x20 Munster Inter Club Championsh­ip is up and running, on this Thursday in Ballydesmo­nd with a 8pm start. Mallow take on Kerry champions Glenbeigh in the Final in a game that could go either way with not much separating the sides at the end.

In Junior Club Broadford, Limerick, defeated Boherbue in one semi-final. They now meet the winner of the second semi-final Kilworth or Newmarket-on-Fergus in the Final on Friday at 7.30 venue to be decided.

In Junior B Club Bohermore A, Limerick defeated Ballydesmo­nd 77 aces to 76 in a quarter-final, at the other side of the draw in a quarter final Liscarroll defeated Friary Abbeyside, Dungarvan 81 aces to 61. The semi-finals were played on Tuesday night in Broadford and Galbally if Liscarroll win their semi-final they will be involved in the Final on this Friday at 7.30pm with venue dependent on Final pairing.

The Cork Open Juvenile Singles League from U-12 to U-17 has also commenced and will continue for the next number of weeks, during that period each age group will be narrowed down to four,the training and coaching of the last four in each age group will continue over the Christmas/New Year period and from the four in each age group Singles and Doubles to represent Cork in 2019 40x20 Munster Juvenile Championsh­ip.

On Sunday next in Mallow at 6pm the 2018 40x20 Senior Singles County Final will be decided in which Brendan Fleming, Ballydesmo­nd, will play Michael Hedigan, Liscarroll.

The 40x20 County Championsh­ip 2019 will commence next week and run to early January this championsh­ip will decide Cork representa­tives in next year’s provincial championsh­ip,with a large entry in all grades there will be a busy schedule of games between now and early January.
