AFTER what had been a hectic few weeks on the hurling and football fronts, Dromtariffe GAA moved off the pitch and onto the dance-floor last Saturday night for their successful Strictly Come Dancing fund-raiser.

The Charleville Park Hotel was the venue for the event as fleet-footed competitors showed off their impressive moves in front of a large crowd of delighted spectators.

Suffice to say the night was an outstanding success, with the ambitious strategic plan being undertaken by Dromtariffe GAA juvenile and ladies football clubs, receiving a massive boost thanks to a collaborative effort.

With patrons snapping up close on 900 tickets, 14 couples took to the dancefloor, impressing the audience with their colourful and energetic performances made all the more enjoyable by some brilliant technical and creative production.

Given the amazing standard of dancing on display, the judging panel of Cork ladies footballer Ciara O’Sullivan, World Irish Dancing champion Julie Nolan, Cork Ladies Football Selector James Masters and Dromtariffe GAA Club Chairman Gerard Tancred had the unenviable task of picking the best dancers.

Taking home the glitter ball trophies were audience vote winners Deirdre Murphy and Martin Cullinane who performed a jive to the Dolly Parton classic ‘Nine to Five’.

“I’m shocked and totally surprised. We enjoyed the experience and great fun over the past few weeks”, said Martin, a Dromtariffe native, now residing near Kanturk.

“Everybody deserves so much credit for staging the event, it was so much fun to be involved. With my daughters playing with Dromtariffe ladies football, I volunteered to participate and enjoyed the whole experience”, said a delighted Deirdre.

Meanwhile, the Judges’ Award for the Best Dancers of the evening went to Áine Collins and Joe Guerin with Eileen Buckley and Michael Byrnes securing the Best Entertainment Award.

Well known associates from Dromtariffe GAA and Dromtariffe Ladies Football Clubs were joined by familiar faces from Newmarket, Millstreet, Ballydaly, Cullen, Ballyhass and Lismire, to enjoy a night’s entertainement or to perfect their dance moves for the cheering supporters.

Unquestionably the biggest winner of the night were the host clubs as the proceeds rasied will now be investedt into their complex at Rathcoole.
