McEgan pupils attend internet safety workshop

-

RECENTLY, 15 Transition Year pupils from McEgan College spent a day at the company Trend Micro on the Model Farm Road in Cork, where they attended a very informative and interactive workshop on the importance of internet safety along with two other secondary schools.

As part of the workshop, the pupils were trained in how to deliver a presentation to their peers on the importance of safety when using the internet, especially when using social media.

Trend Micro will provide ongoing support to the pupils in delivering the presentation and provided the pupils with an information pack and power point presentation to enable them to carry out the presentation. The pupils received a tour of the company and were treated to lunch. McEgan College is very grateful to the staff at Trend Micro for this invaluable experience.

Meanwhile, well done to McEgan’s LCVP Sixth Year class (pictured below right) who presented a cheque to the value of €668.26 to Kerry Cancer Support Group. Part of their LCVP course is to work as teams to fundraise or raise awareness of certain charities.

After holding a brain storming session, it was agreed to fundraise for this worthy charity. Several fundraising events were held last year such as a 5km Fun Run, a Bake Sale and Non-Uniform Day. Breda and Trish from the charity talked to the class about the vital service it provides.
