Gerald and Junlian’s Lullaby Milk on sale in Aldi stores nationwide

-

ALDI this week announced that Lullaby Milk, one of Cork’s most innovative food and drinks suppliers, and one of the five winners of the Grow With Aldi supplier development programme, is now listed in its 134 stores nationwide.

Lullaby Milk is produced by Gerald and Julian Burns in Kanturk, and processed by North Cork Creameries in Kanturk. The milk boasts a high level of melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone found in both cow’s milk and the human body, that helps regulate sleep.

On sale in Aldi for €2.19 per litre, Lullaby Milk successfully won a place on the Grow With Aldi supplier development programme earlier this year, and now its melatonin-rich milk will be available on Aldi’s shelves every day.

Welcoming the Aldi listing, Gerald and Julian said “the support and mentoring offered by Aldi throughout the Grow with Aldi programme has benefitted our business immensely, and we are excited to see our product made available to Aldi shoppers across the country every day.

“We believe we offer something truly unique and are thankful to Aldi for giving us the opportunity to share it.”

Developed in partnership with Bord Bia, Grow with Aldi has been designed to help small to medium Irish food and drink businesses secure a retail listing with the discount supermarket. Participants received tailored mentoring and access to bespoke workshops with Aldi buyers and Bord Bia technical experts, coaching them on the skills to help further develop their products and business. Aldi has invested €500,000 in the programme this year.

Commenting on the supplier programme, John Curtin, Group Buying Director, Aldi Ireland said: “Lullaby Milk is the first of five exceptional products to make it to our shelves, with the remaining four products scheduled for a launch in January 2019.

“The partnership with Gerald and Julian is key to our business objective of supporting local producers and, in this instance, a dairy business with an excellent milk product.

“The Burns family have a long tradition in farming, with over 100 years of pedigree cows in North Cork. The idea for Lullaby milk started with Gerald’s father, and both Gerald and Julian have done an excellent job in developing the product for market.

“It sold very well during our August launch and we have confidence in Gerald and Julian, and the high quality of the product they produce,” added Mr Curtin.
