A great opportunity to showcase local business

- SIOBHAN MURPHY Advertising & Marketing Manager The Corkman

IT’S amazing to think this is our sixth year holding IRD Duhallow Business Awards as it only seems like yesterday that we first created the idea to stage such an event.

With a flood of applications from businesses across the region this year, not only does each application tell its own personal story about the work and endeavour involved but, when combined, they reveal a broader insight into the Duhallow business story - a story that is not always given its rightful platform on which to showcase its true worth.

We’re proud that these awards go some way towards facilitating an environment where the people behind local enterprises can gather and celebrate their work and meet with fellow business people. We were conscious of this when starting out as we wanted to make the IRD Duhallow Business Awards more than just another awards event per se. We wanted to give business people an opportunity to meet with like-minded business people and to relax and enjoy it; something we feel has been achieved.

This year has been no different in terms of the calibre of applications received.

Lastly, while I wish to congratulate all those who have been shortlisted for awards, I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who submitted an application. Believe me when I say that deciding on a final list is never an easy process given the scope and quality of businesses involved.

Each year I am amazed at the calibre of businesses on show, which is evident in the hard work, ingenuity and innovation of local entrepreneurs and their staff.

I’m also astounded by the number of businesses that we don’t know of – people going about very successful enterprises but often only well known within their sectors. This is another strength associated with IRD Duhallow Business Awards in that it provides a brilliant opportunity to showcase businesses from across the region.

It’s also an excellent occasion for people to network and interact. It’s not often that business people find time to relax in a social setting and get to share their experiences with fellow business people. We’re delighted that the IRD Duhallow Business Awards has now evolved to become a key date in the business calendar; it’s a chance to celebrate the many positives associated with local business. I’m very much looking forward to meeting you all on the night.
