McAulliffe: we will need to be sharper going forward
FOLLOWING the highs of a county triumph amidst a brilliant atmosphere, excitement and drama, Dromtariffe entered new ground and without being overly impressive, they had enough on hand to account for Kildimo-Pallaskenry.
According to team manager, James McAulliffe, the contest turned in a typical opening round performance, plenty to be happy with much to dwell on ahead of this weekend’’s semi final.
“All involved are just delighted to get over the assignment, just six points separated the sides at the finish. A competitive game, we knew Kildimo-Pallaskenry would bring a tough physical challenge to us and so it proved,” he said.
At times, a bit of hot and cold from Dromtariffe, the most productive surfacing during the second quarter, the attack buzzed with energy, a lively unit were provided with sufficient possession to enjoy a positive return highlighted from goals netted by Shane Collins and Mark O’Connor.
“The scoring flourish set us nicely for the second half, a game is never won at the break. As against Charleville in the County JAFC Round 1, K/P were always going to come back to us,” said McAulliffe.
“We certainly didn’t run away with this game, losing our shape a little in the second half, that may be contributed on Dromtariffe holding a 9-10 point advantage early in the second half,” he said.
At times, Dromtariffe weren’t too prolific in terms of finding the target, poor shooting impinged on their game.
“Some of the shooting that contributed to the 10 wides was erratic particularly on playing against the breeze in the opening half. That was our first venture into Munster, maybe a few of the players were pumped up and lost their composure,” said the team manager.
On the positive side, there were hugely valuable contributions from Dromtariffe players in many sectors yet that was offset by some sloppy passages that will need to be corrected ahead of new challengers.
“Hopefully we will learned from the Kildimo-Pallaskenry contest, certainly, we will need to be sharper going forward,” said McAuliffe.
Two sporting sides contributed to a sporting contest bar the closing few feisty minutes saw three Limerick players receive red cards.
“Crucially, we held our discipline, all important to keep 15 players on the field. At this stage of the season, its key to be operating from a full panel,” said the Dromtariffe boss.
