Scór na nÓg Final returns to Kanturk
THE Kanturk Credit Union Duhallow Scór na nÓg Final goes ahead on this Friday night in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk commencing at 7.30pm.
Competitors must be under 17 years of age on January 1st, 2019 with the extensive schedule focusing on figure/set dancing, solo singing, recitation, novelty act, instrumental music and ballad groups.
The winners progress to a county final on Friday, Deccember 28.
Looking ahead, national school kids interested in swinging to the tune of polkas, preparing sketches to singing and reciting are catered in Scór na bpaistí. Entries can be forwarded to Duhallow Scór Secretary Julie O’Connor.
Cultural talent at its finest is expected to emerge within Duhallow for the upcoming divisional Scór na nóg and Scór na bpaistí competitions. Interest within the GAA promoted programme continues to abound and barriers broken.
Cullen’s Maggie Moynihan sampled delight to collect outright All Ireland Scór na nÓg honours in solo singing after delivering a surperb rendition of the emigration song “Cooraclare” to land an All Ireland title for the Duhallow club for the first time in 46 years.
From serior level and in the Munster Final, Kanturk’s Muireann Vaughan, emerging best in the Solo Singing. Elsewhere a Boherbue Table Quiz team earned third place in the All Ireland Final.
During the past season, consistency allowed Boherbue emerge popular winners of the Paddy Carroll Memorial Cup as Best Scór club in the county in a league competition based on participation and success at underage and adult level.
At its AGM hosted by Boherbue club, the Duhallow Scór group confirmed it had made huge strides in the promotion of cultural affair within the GAA. And that was reflected on county, provincial and All Ireland participation during the past year.
At the helm of the Duhallow Scór Group for the new season are Chairman Liam Buckley(Kilbrin); Vice Chairman, Tony McAulliffe(Limire), Secretary Julie O’Connor ( Freemount), Asst Secretary, Tina Dunstsn(Boherbue); Joint Treasurers Phil Guiney(Newmarket) and Jerome Casey (Boherbue), PRO Margaret Herlihy(Boherbue) and Development Officer James Lenihan (Millstreet).
