Great finish sees Shandrum hurlers advance past Glen

SHANDRUM with a very good last 10 minutes emerged deserving winners over Glen Rovers in the County Premier 1 Under 21 HC third round at Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday night.

The Avondhu side had the aid of the slight breeze in the first half. Glen Rovers started with Dale Tynan and Conor O’Sullivan in midfield. Dale Tynan opened with an early point with Luke Morrissey levelling in the third minute. Good work by Cormac O’Brien led to a lead point by Tim O’Mahony. In the 7th minute Simon Kennefick levelled at 0-2 each. Rapid points by Sean

Griffin and Tim O’Mahony edged the winners ahead. Jamie Corkery pointed a free with Conor Griffin replying with a free. Tim O’Mahony with a free opened up a double scores lead after 20 minutes. Glen Rovers used Liam Coughlan as an extra defender. Jamie Corkery pointed a ‘65 and they had a goal by Dale Tynan as they led 1-4 to 0-6.

Shandrum recovered well. Their half backs and midfielder­s picked up their game and. Brian Buckley landed a long range point with Tim O’Mahony landing from a free and play as Shandrum held a close lead at the break 0-9 to 1-5.

On the resumption Shandrum had a point by Jack Twomey within 20 seconds. Glen Rovers had a number of wides and they had to wait till the 42nd minute for their first score in this half by Owen O’Neill. John Geary struck two great points for Shandrum as they moved 1-13 to

1- 6 clear. Glen Rovers improved. They had a very good point by Simon Kennefick with Owen O’Neill and Darragh Kennefick with points closing the gap 1-13 to 1-9 entering the 50th minute. ‘Shandrum defended well with Eric Moloney and Darragh Guiney very impressive. Good play by Sean Griffin led to a well taken goal by Conor Griffin.

Sean Griffin added a very good point with Tim O’Mahony after being put through by Cormac O’Brien being fouled and O’Mahony pointed the free in the 55th minute 2-15 to 1-9. Tim O’Mahony added two points for the winners while Owen O’Neill with a late goal and a point completed the scoring.
