HAVING already amassed years of experience in hairdressing, Katelynn Murphy spotted an opportunity to open her own business and, coming from a family of self-starters, she grasped scissors and comb with both hands,
“I opened my own salon in Rathmore in February 2017 after six years of experience in some of the top salons in Kerry and North Cork,” says Katelynn. “I saw the opportunity to take on this challenge and, coming from a family of self starters, I was assured that there was no time like the present.
“Rathmore provided a prime location with a large population who had to travel outside their own village to get their hair done as there was no salon at that time.”
HUGE LOCAL SUPPORT
Katelynn says she has been hugely supported hugely by the local community and is delighted that she can boast of clients from well beyond the area also.
“I attribute my success to my continuous upskilling and my dedication to using salon quality professional products and specialised treatments,” she says.
“Without the support of the community, local business would not survive and I owe a debt of gratitude to my customers who came in droves and continue to support me month after month.”
ROOM TO EXPAND
However, Katelynn is also working continuously to expand her client base. “Ideally, I plan to employ a stylist and trainee in next 3-5 years as the unit itself has space for expansion,” she says.
