Gardaí seize cannabis worth €52k from Mallow
Growhouse
GARDAÍ have struck another significant blow in their fight against drugs in the Mallow area, following the third major seizure in the district since the start of September.
The latest seizure took place last Monday evening shortly before 7pm when Gardaí from the Mallow Drugs Unit executed a search warrant at a house situated in the Ballyviniter area of the town.
During the ensuing search they discovered a ‘growhouse’ containing approximately €26,000 worth of cannabis plants and cannabis herb with an almost identical value.
The suspected drugs have been sent away for forensic analysis.
Officers also seized sophisticated cultivation equipment including heat lamps, heaters and fans worth hundreds of Euro.
While no arrests had been made in relation to the seizure at time of going to press, a Garda spokesman said their investigation was ongoing.
The latest seizure brings to almost €90,000 the total estimated value of drugs seized by Mallow Gardaí in recent weeks.
In early September as part of what the spokesman described as “an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs”, Gardaí conducted raids over a number of days at locations in the Mallow area, seizing more than €30,000 worth of suspected cannabis and cocaine.
On October 19, Gardaí seized €500 worth Xanax tablets while searching a house in the Gouldshill area of Mallow town. In a follow-up operation Gardaí seized a further €2,200 worth of the controlled tablets in addition to approximately €2,200 worth of suspected heroin.
A female was arrested as a result of the operation and a file is currently being prepared for the Director Of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Garda spokesman said the seizures were part of their ongoing efforts to address the cultivation, sale and supply of drugs across the Mallow district through what he described as “targeted operations”.
