Macroom FC beat Coachford to progress in FAI Junior Cup
Adult Cup Competitions:
In the FAI Junior Cup round 4, Macroom A travelled to near neighbours Coachford, winning on a huge scoreline of 5-1. This is a significant victory as Macroom now advance to the open national draw (for only the second time), the last 64 teams in Ireland.
The visitors dominated this game with a tremendous battling attitude throughout the field. Andrew Hegarty was in great form and he chipped in with a hat trick. Keith Holden and Ian Winters were also on target. There were also excellent performances from Paul O’Farrell, Alan Quinn and Conor O’ Sullivan.
Macroom A have been drawn away to Dublin side Ballymun Utd and this exciting tie will be played on the weekend of Dec1st/2nd. This promises to be another great occasion for the club and no doubt a large band of supporters will travel to the capital.
Meanwhile, in the AOH Cup, Carrigtwohill Utd B were the visitors to Murrayfield where Macroom A ran out comfortable 4-1 winners. Robert Healy, Andrew Hegarty, Ian Winters and an o.g. accounted for the goals in what was another satisfactory team performance.
Macroom B travelled to Millstreet to take on Los Zarcos in the QF of the President’s Cup and were unlucky to lose out on a 3-2 scoreline.
A great start had the visitors flying after Sean Quinn scored. It was end to end stuff with chances at both ends and Macroom keeper Declan Kiely made a number of smart saves.
Into the second period and Los Zarcos turned the tie upside down with two quick goals. Macroom replied when Szymon Sanetra’s cross was finished by Darren Dineen. The open nature of the game continued and the home side retook the lead with only minutes remaining.
Late drama arrived when Dineen struck the crossbar for Macroom and then he had the ball in the net but the goal was ruled out for offside. A tough defeat to take but a fine performance. The team can take many positives.
Macroom Cannons Futsal:
The newly formed Futsal team, Macroom Cannons U13, continue to train at Macroom Community Leisure Centre on Friday evenings. As numbers for a third U13 11-a-side squad were not sufficient, this team was formed to bring football to interested players not already involved with the other two groups.
It has proven to be a great success. All players are having a brilliant time under the guidance of Gearoid Griffin and Peter Coleman and huge improvement is already being seen.
Feedback from parents has also been very positive and this gives great encouragement to all involved.
