Tidy Towns says ‘thank you’ to Mallow volunteers
THOSE who championed the ethos of Mallow Tidy Towns by ‘ keeping their patch up to scratch’ were rewarded for their efforts last Thursday night at the group’s third annual awards night in the Arches Bar.
The event shone the spotlight on the individuals, residents’ groups and businesses whose sterling efforts helped contribute to Mallow’s outstanding showing in this year’s SuperValu National Tidy Towns competition and who were singled out for mention by judges.
Presentations were made on the night by committee members Eileen Gyves, Brendan O’Shea, Sheila O’Shea, Eleanor Fitzpatrick and Trish Kennedy.
Speaking on the night Tidy Towns chairman Niall O’Keeffe thanked all those involved for their outstanding efforts, including the dedicated team of Tidy Towns volunteers.
“The combined efforts of everyone working to improve their local estate, area of the space outside of their business has helped improve the town,” said Mr O’Keeffe.
Since 2012 Mallow’s final mark in the national competition has risen by an impressive 43 marks, with its tally for this year rising by 10 to 293.
“This is a great achievement that the town hopes to build on for the next year.
“We want to see Mallow continuing to improve so that we can join the likes of Ballincollig, Cobh and Carrigaline as Cork County Tidy Towns medal winners,” Mr O’Keeffe added.
A special award was handed out on the night to Michael Kelly, who recently retired from his role with the Avondhu Blackwater Partnership working alongside Mallow Tidy Towns.
