Run in the dark takes off into the night

-

UP to 70 runners took to the road last Wednesday in the annual Run In The Dark in aid of the Mark Pollack Spinal Injury Trust.

The athletes came from North Cork and South Tipperary to take part in the event which began from Ocano’s on the Main Street at 8pm. Chief organiser Eleanor Wallace thanked Mallow Gardai, Mallow Rugby Club, Red Cross and Civil Defence who were present to insure a safe and incident free run.

The team at the Mark Pollock Trust believe that the cure for spinal cord injury simply requires enough of the right people, in science, in business, in technology - to unlock one billion euro in funding to cure paralysis in our lifetime. Those who ran last Wednesday night were supporting the Mark Pollock Trust in that mission. Every step, every donation, every run entry, moves towards enabling people to walk again.

Special thanks to Ocana’s Restaurant and Late Night Bar for letting out the use of their premises again this year for this very special event.

The first to return on the damp and windy night in the 10K men section were Shane Moran (43.02), Jerry Curtin (45.06) and Niall Lehane (48.29) while in the 10K Ladies section Ciara Quinlan (48.54), Caroline Buckley (50.18) and Ana Ramos (54.08). In the Mens 5K Kevin Cagney (27.43) and Pat Hynes (31.49) were first home while in the Ladies 5K Caroline O’Sullivan (22.29), Fiona Bailey (27.29) and Liz O’Connor (28.05) were the top three.
