Teams aim high as Blackwater darts league takes off

THE Blackwater Valley Darts League commenced the 2018 - 2019 league season last Friday, November 16.

Dalys were home to Maureens with the home team getting off to a tremendous start when Gerry Black defeated Pat Angland 3-0. Brendan Mathews overcame Patrick Angland 3-0 and newcomer Sean McGann outgunned Andrew Clarke 3-2 in a close contest.

Maureens fought back with Klaus Richter beating Johnny Holland 3-0. Dalys struck again when Darren Lynch defeated James Angland 3-0. Danny Butler of Maureens had a close encounter which he won 3-2.

In the doubles Dalys were not going to let this victory slip away from them. Darren Lynch and Johnny Holland defeated Klaus Richter and Sean Dilworth 3-1. Gerry Black and Brendan Mathews saw off Patrick Angland and Dave O’Brien 3-0 with 40 scores of 100 plus on the night.

Final score was Dalys 6 – Maureens 2.

In Buttevant the epic duel between Kit Roches and Horgans continued. Horgans kicked off with Chris Holmes defeating Tim Deady 3-0 and Edward Phelan overcame Chris O’ Toole 3-2.

Kevin Linehan beat Mikey Bowles 3-1 Ray Harrington beat Adrian Holmes 3-0 and Aaron Ryan defeated Patrick Holmes 3-0 to put Kit Roches in front but Rob Harrington levelled matters up beating Ger Mc Carthy 3-0.

In the doubles Kits took the lead when Ray Harrington and Aaron Ryan overcame Adrian Holmes and Chris Holmes 3-2 in a close contest. Horgan’s pair Rob Harrington and Mike Dunlea defeated Kevin Linehan and Chris O’ Toole 3-2.

Sixty-nine 100 plus scores on the night and it finished all square Kit Roches 4 – Horgans 4.

The Bridge House were home to the Mouse Trap. The Bridge got off to a flyer, Liam Farrell defeating Adrian O’ Sullivan 3-2 in a close game. Eddie Rourke beat beat John Harkin 3-0 and Alan Flynn overcame Cian O’ Neill 3-2 in another close game.

The Mouse Trap responded with Mick O’Rourke defeating Pat Haugh 3-0 and Owen Doyle winning 3-1 against Colm Cahill. Nicky Sherman beat Martin Doyle 3-1 with the Bridge leading 4-2 after the singles.

In the doubles Owen Doyle and Martin Doyle overcame Eddie Rourke and Alan Flynn 3-2 in yet another close game to put the Trap within one game for a well deserved draw. But Nicky Sherman and Colm Cahill were having none of it and defeated Mick Rourke and Cian O’Neill 3-1.

Forty-six 100 plus scores on the night; Bridge House 5 – Mousetrap 3.

Kilbrin Social Club travelled to Corkerys for their league game. The home team took the lead when Dave O’Leary beat Alan Mullane 3-0. Kilbrin’s Mickey O’Connor overcame Peter Heslin 3-2 in a close contest, in which Peter checked out on a 140.

Tim O’Sullivan defeated Alex McCarthy 3-1 with O’Sullivan checking out on 120. Alan Ballantyne levelled it in another close contest with Will O’Shea 3-2.

Reliable Stephen Connolly defeated Mick Kennedy 3-1. Pa Lucey increased their lead defeating Paddy Mc Mahon 3-2.

Kilbrin had a pow wow before the doubles and it worked. Mikey O’Connor and Mick Kennedy defeated Tom O’Sullivan and Dave O’Leary 3-2. Alan Mullane and Alan Ballentyne overcame Peter Heslin and Stephen Connolly 3-1.

Sixty-five 100 plus scores in this meeting. The final result was Corkerys 4 - Kilbrin Social Club 4.

The fixtures for Friday, November 23 are: Horgans v Bridge House, Kilbrin Social Club v Mousetrap, Maureens v Kit Roches and Dalys v Corkerys.
