AS another year draws to a close the season of goodwill is almost upon us, and the warmth and wonder of Christmas can be captured best here in Newmarket.

The service is delivered with a smile and a wide range of gifting ideas and bargain purchases are available. Whether you need toys for the toddlers or clothes jewellery and electrical goods for that special someone its available right here.

Fresh fruit and vegetables, groceries at competitive prices and a service you won’t better, this is the town for you. With three hour parking available there’s even time to stop for a coffee and a tasty treat while you reflect on your days shopping.

We both invite and encourage you to try Newmarket this Christmas it will be time and money well spent.

As ever, we are delighted to announce that Santa will be coming to town on Saturday, December 1 at 4pm in our community garden. This is a lovely event for the children of our community and we look forward to welcoming them on the day. 2018 was another year of great progress in our community. We saw our performance in the Tidy Towns competition improve yet again as both the committee and our local volunteers worked so well together over the year.

The summer did not just provide scorching heat it also produced two superb festivals. The summer festival brought large crowds to town and cul- minated in a spectacular fireworks display which lit up the skies above the fairground and beyond.

The Scullysfest celebrated Irish music and culture and was enjoyed by massive numbers who flocked to each and every event. It was a triumph and great credit is due to both organising committees for there efforts.

We wish to thank our local traders who support so many groups, including our own each year. We would achieve nothing without there kind support and we really appreciate it.

The community development association were delighted to secure grants to enable us to invest in two major projects this year. One was the footpath on the lower road, which was only possible with the financial contributions of the residents, along with the funding from our committee and the Kerry Group.

It was an example of how effective and productive a community can be when we work together in the best interests of our town.

We were also delighted to receive funding to upgrade our playground and this work is due to commence in mid to late December and will be of tremendous value to the children and parents who will avail of it early next year.

Much thanks is due to our partners in Cork County Council for their help and support, especially those in the local Newmarket office. Much has been achieved by so many groups and clubs in Newmarket this year and we would like to wish them all continued success as we head into 2019. The combined efforts of all volunteers, traders and members of the public who have supported the groups and the clubs have enhanced our town greatly. We will continue to work with all committees and members of the public to continue to advance the Newmarket cause in the year ahead.

Our strength is our togetherness, and our pride and purpose make us all one team and one great town.

On behalf of the Newmarket community development association I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.
