Kilworth to take on Moycullen for inter-club crown

IN handball this weekend the main focus will be on 40x20 All Ireland Inter Club Championsh­ip, which are down for decision on Saturday.

Cork interest will be focused on Junior Club in which Munster champions Kilworth will carry Cork and Munster hopes at Kildare venue Leixlip commencing at 12 noon they will face Connacht champions Moycullen Galway in a semi-final.

Kilworth were impressive in winning the Munster title and with a nicely balanced team they will be hopeful of doing well on Saturday, Moycullen also have a strong side on duty and will not be easily beaten.

Kilworth lost narrowly in this championsh­ip last year and will be hopeful the experience gained will stand to them on this occasion. The Kilworth panel is James Moakley, John Kiersey, Dion Cahill, John Horgan, Mike Dunne.

If they succeed in getting over the Moycullen challenge then they will face the winner of Templeudig­an, Wexford or St Galls, Antrim in the final at Leixlip at 4pm on Saturday afternoon.

In the Open championsh­ip which will be played at Cullohill, Laois Kerry champions Glenbeigh will carry Munster hopes, while in Junior B grade which is down for decision at Curraghboy, Roscommon Limerick side Hospital will carry Munster hopes.

Belfast Golden Gloves Ranked Tournament was played at Belfast venues last weekend with Catriona Casey, Ballydesmo­nd taking Ladies Open Senior Singles title defeating Aishling Reilly, Antrim in a lively skilful final on a score of 15/12, 15/5.

Diarmuid Nash, Clare made it a Munster double winning Mens Open Senior Singles defeating Charlie Shanks,Armagh 15/3,15/6. Cork players Daniel Relihan, Michael Hedigan and Brendan Fleming all competed in the Open Senior played well, but did not advance to the concluding stages.

Mallow Credit Union sponsored Cork Juvenile teams contested 60x30 All Ireland Inter County Team Championsh­ip played at Dungarvan they took on Kilkenny in both 12/13 Final, which they won and Under 14/ 15 Final which they narrowly lost.

Winning 12/13 was another important step for Under 12/13 they had already won 40x20 title earlier in the year and achieved a very notable double in winning 60x30 the Cork team on duty was made up of four Fermoy players Ben Sullivan, Cian Cronin O’Neill, Cameron O’Sullivan and Hayden Supple, two Boherbue players Tomas O’Connor, Donal Murphy, Cian Dunning, Conna, Wesley Delany, Mallow.

In 14/15 after a close contest in which both teams gave it their all Cork had to give best to a strong Kilkenny side the Cork team on duty was four Ballydesmo­nd players Darragh Murphy, Eoghan Daly, John Cronin, Michael Mullane, Boherbue player Dan Sheahan,Mallow player Eric Delany.

Back to the domestic scene 40x20 adult championsh­ip and Cork Open Juvenile League Boys and Girls continue to make progress. I adult championsh­ip good progress has been made over the past two weeks in Junior,

Junior B and Minor Singles with the next round of fixtures now issued further progress will be made during the coming week.

In Cork Juvenile Open progress continues in both Boys and Girls with both being down to concluding stages by early December with Mallow Credit Union 40x20 County Championsh­ip kicking in at that stage.
