Two wins from two games for St Colmans hurlers
St. Colman’s (Fermoy) 1-12 Gael Cholaiste (Mhuire) 0-9
A PHYSICALLY stronger St Colman’s side were too strong for Gael Cholaiste (North Mon) in the second round Dr. Harty Cup (Munster Colleges Senior A HC) at Rathcormac on Thursday. James Kearney soloed through in the second minute and opened the scoring. Good play by Darragh Flynn led to a David Lardner point after five minutes.
Gael Cholaiste had three wides with David Lardner with a free in the 13th minute making 0-3 to 0-0. A well placed puckout by Lucas O’ Donnabhain found Dale O’Teimhneacain who pointed. The City side followed with a long range pointed free by Daire O’Conaire. O’ Conaire levelled with another long range pointed free 0-3 each. Shane O’Riagain gave Gael Cholaiste the lead with a massive point from near the sideline. The lead was short lived as David Morrisson goaled for the winners who edged 1-3 to 0-4 clear.
St. Colman’s were wide from a free before they edged a goal clear when David Lardner pointed after a long range free by Eoin Roche was gathered by Brian Roche who placed the inrushing David Lardner for the point. In the 26th minute Gael Cholaiste came within two when a sideline cut by Caoimhin O Muimhneachain was collected by Stiofain O Bradaigh who linked up with Caoimhin O Siochain who placed Shane O Riagain for a great point. Colman’s regained the goal lead when Brian Roche pointed.
In the closing moments Eoin Carey pointed with Daire O’Conaire completing the scoring with an injury-time ‘65’ to make it 1-6 to 0-6 at the break.
On the restart Lucas O’Murchu cut through and was denied by Colman’s keeper Ben Hogan. David Lardner followed with a pointed free. Shane O’Riagain kept the Gael Cholaiste hopes alive with a pointed free as Colman’s still led by a goal 1-7 to 0-7. Gael Cholaiste had two wides with Colman’s David Lardner pointing a free after a foul on Eoin Carey. David Lardner with another free opened up a five point lead. The ‘Mon’ missed a few chances. They lacked penetration up front relying mainly on O Riagain and O Conaire for scores. They had a pointed free by O Riagain entering the final quarter 1-9 to 0-8
Eoin Carey struck some good points for St. Colman’s edged 6 points clear 1-11 to 0-8. Daire O Conaire had the Gael Cholaiste last score in the 53rd minute. Brian Roche completed the scoring in the 55th minute. Both sides made some substitutions. St. Colman’s now have two wins from two games and could finish group leaders depending on the result of their game with Ard Scoil Limerick this week. ST.
