Araglen Desmond Buí Ladies savour minor win
MISSION accomplished for Araglen Desmonds Buí Ladies football for an end of season success and a thrilling 4-7 to 2-11 victory over Mourneabbey in the North Cork Minor Football Championship and League Finals.
With two trophies on offer, Araglen started the game off with three points through Megan Courtney and Kate Dennehy. Mourneabbey started to kick up a gear and absorbed the early pressure with a run of scores.
However, the combination of Boherbue, Ballydesmond and Kiskeam roared back into contention, two points from Rachel Breen and a goal from Grace Kelly helped Araglen Desmonds Buí gain a narrow lead at the break.
From the second half of swaying fortunes, there was no way of predicting which way the balance would swing. Araglen started the scoring off with a beauty of a goal from Jean O’Keeffe. In fairness, Mourneabbey upped their efforts for five points in quick succession.
Back came Araglen with a crucial goal and a point from the enterprising Rachel Breen. Again Mourneabbey sparked a comeback with a goal and trio of points. Araglen failed to allow the setback deflate them, the occasion called for power and determination, the Desmonds Buí decided to put the game to bed in the form of Rebecca Cremin with a classic goal to secure a two point advantage at the full time whistle
