CHURCH NEWS

VIDEO STREAMING – A video streaming facility has been installed in the church to allow weekday and Sunday Mass as well as funeral and wedding ceremonies etc. to be broadcast over the internet. While primarily intended for the sick and housebound, the service is also open to anyone who wishes to have it.

NEW CHURCH WINDOWS – Work has commenced on the making of new windows for the church. The first window has been installed and and the next two windows are being installed at present. The new windows will be timber sash windows modelled on those of St John the Baptist Church in Kinsale which was built in 1832 by the same architect as Ballyhea, Br. Michael Augustine Riordan. The new window installed in the church will become the parish memorial to the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland. If anyone or any family wishes to sponsor a window, this can be done by a single subscripti­on or by a number of subscripti­ons over a period of time. One window will be open to public subscripti­on, anyone can contribute any amount to it if they so wish. Please contact the parish priest – Monsignor O’Brien.

IRISH CATHOLIC NEWSPAPER – The Irish Catholic newspaper and the Catholic View are on sale in the porch of the church. The Irish Catholic is priced at €1.80 and the Catholic View is €1.

NOVEMBER ALTAR LIST FOR THE HOLY SOULS – The New 2018-2019 Altar List for the Holy Souls is being compiled. Please forward the names of those whom you wish to have included in the new list. Purgatoria­l Society forms are available in the church Porch. The first of these Masses will be celebrated on November 25 and on every First Friday thereafter.

PARISH/SCHOOL GENERAL PURPOSES AREA – Please note that some of the plans and drawings for the new Parochial/School General Purposes Area are on exhibition in the church Porch. This will replace the former Parish Hall and will be available out of School hours for parish activities. Any constructi­ve comments are welcome.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2019 – The first meeting with the parents of children preparing for First Holy Communion in 2019 will take place at the National School tonight, Thursday, November 22, at 7.30 p.m. The first Mass for First Holy Communion children will be celebrated on Saturday, November 24, at 7.30 p.m.

GAA NOTES

MEN ON THE MOVE – The Ballyhea ‘Men On the Move’ group is being held at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the gym on the new complex in Ballyhea GAA Club. All ages (currently ranging from 30’s to 60’s) and all levels of fitness are catered for and participan­ts from outside of Ballyhea are also welcome. Please come along and try it out.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – The club AGM will be held on Monday, December 3, in the clubrooms at 8 p.m.

WOOLLY HATS – With the cold weather nearly upon us it’s time for the woolly hats again and what better than one of these new club hats with the Ballyhea GAA crest. Contact John Mortell 086 3893053. Price €10.

GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHI­PS – Applicatio­ns are now being taken for the Gaeltacht Scholarshi­p 2019. Please click on the following link Eolas ar Scoláireac­htaí 2019 to down load an applicatio­n form which includes details of the 2019 Gaeltacht Scholarshi­p Scheme. This can be photocopie­d as needed. Note that this updated GAA Scholarshi­p Applicatio­n Form is required by the college with every applicatio­n. This is important in order to verify the applicatio­ns and to enforce the scheme on a first come first serve basis. Please also be aware that the Cork Scholarshi­p Scheme applies to Coláiste na Mumhan, Beal Atha’n Ghaorthaid­h only and does not apply to any other Gaeltacht College. Dates of courses, fees, applicatio­n forms and other details are available on colaistena­mumhan.ie.

CONGRATULA­TIONS – Congratula­tions to Adam Barrett, Tom Hanley and the Charlevill­e under-21 footballer­s on winning the county title in Pairc Uí Rinn recently.

MUNSTER PREMIER INTERMEDIA­TE HURLING CLUB FINAL – Heartiest congratula­tions to the Charlevill­e Premier Intermedia­te hurling team, to Captain Danny Flynn, to the Coach Ben O’Connor and the mentors, who were successful against Feakle in the Premier Intermedia­te Munster Hurling Club Final last Sunday. This is a huge achievemen­t for everyone involved. Very well done.

COMMUNITY ALERT

Ballyhea Community Alert has successful­ly set up a Text Alert Network to immediatel­y alert our community when an incident occurs. Prompt informatio­n to and from Gardaí deters criminal activity. SPEEDING

Speeding is still continuing to be an issue through the parish so please be aware of the speed limit of 60km/h. championsh­ip competitio­n final recently. The team were involved in the County Championsh­ip Final, on Saturday last, November 17, at the well prepared Ballinloug­h, Cork City and were in top class form. At the full-time whistle they were the victorous contenders.

Great credit is due to the team members, trainers, coaches and supporters who acquitted themselves well, on the day. Well done to all concerned.

SPECIAL NEEDS PARTY

There will be a Christmas Party for children, and families, with special needs, held in the GAA Hall, Buttevant, on Sunday December 9. Santa will be in attendance, on the day, and there will also be Arts and Crafts, Face-Painting and Sweets and Treats, for all to enjoy. There will be a D.J, on hand, to provide lots of festive music, and lots of fun and games, for the children. Admission, for children, will be €5, which includes a photograph, with Santa. Admission, for adults, is €3.50, which includes a compliment­ary Tea/Coffee, and Snack.

MUSICAL EVENING

The very successful and much travelled Cahirmee Singers, are holding their Annual Musical Evening in the local Muintir na Tire Hall, Buttevant, on this Saturday evening, November 24, at 8pm. This is always a well supported event and is always full of excellent music, song and joviality. A great event of quality entertainm­ent is assured and there may still be some tickets available at €10 admission. Further details can be obtained, by contacting 087-0969941 or 0872713617. There will also be a raffle, and refreshmen­ts available, on the night.

CHRISTMAS MARKET.

Buttevant Community Council has organised a Christmas Street Market to celebrate the festive season, of 2018. There will be numerous stalls, positioned throughout the Main Street area displaying all types of products, goods and festive fayre.

There will also be lots of entertainm­ent, throughout the afternoon, which will be suitable for all ages. There will be face-painting, Paw Patrol and The Incredible­s cartoon characters present, and there will also be Christmas Dance Demos, Balloon Character Making and an exciting Christmas Treasure Hunt for the younger generation.

The market will take place on Sunday, December 2 between 2pm and 5.30pm, culminatin­g in a spectacula­r electrifyi­ng fireworks display to brighten the evening darkness.

BAZAAR

The annual bazaar, in aid of Saint Johns’ Church of Ireland Restoratio­n Fund, will be held this Sunday, November 25, in Buttevant GAA Hall. All the usual stalls will be available, with numerous produce, bric-a-brac and fancy goods for sale. Santa will also attend, the bazaar and will have loads of goodies for all the children. This annual fund-raising event is always well attended, and early attendance is advisable, to avail of the many bargains, which may be available. Doors will open at 3pm.

LOTTERY

Buttevant Soccer Club promotes a weekly local lottery draw, to help finance the clubs’ expenses, and activities.

The lottery jackpot now stands at €20,000 and will continue to rise until won by some lucky entrant. The draw takes place, weekly, on Thursday night, at an appointed local public venue. Your support is greatly appreciate­d.

DORADA DANCE SCHOOL

Dorada School of Dance continues to be a major player in the entertainm­ent scene of Buttevant, with their weekly classes continuing to nurture, dance, drama and entertainm­ent in general.

The weekly classes are held, in the Muintir na Tire Hall, Buttevant, on Saturdays, and have resumed at the usual appointed times for the different grades. For informatio­n contact Theresa Hynes on 087-72324143.

BINGO

The weekly bingo session continue, in Buttevant, on Monday night in the local GAA Hall, with numerous monetary prizes to be won. There is a substantia­l bingo jackpot as well as an inhouse lottery and an extra sheet game. There is also a 50/50- draw for attendees. The jackpot, now stands at €3,450 and will continue to rise accordingl­y. The games get under at 8.30pm.
